Elevation: 6,075 m.
Location: Beyond the city of Arequipa, Southern Peru.
Maps: Carta Nacional, sheets Arequipa and Characato.

Duration: 2 days and 1 night, as well in 3 days and 2 nights possible.
Season: This mountain is accessible all year round. However from January through March snow fall and clouds may occur.
Description: Wonderful mountain towering over the city of Arequipa. Of volcanic origin, the craters at the peaks are snowcovered. Several summits reach above 5,750 m. Crampons, ice ax and hiking poles are necessary.
The Nevado Chachani boasts the reputation of being "the most accessible Sixthousand-meter-peak of the World." Still it is mandatory to climb it in good physical condition and after reaching a sufficient acclimatization to the altitude.
Rutas: All ascents require ice-ax, crampons and hiking poles.
- Northern Route or La Azufrera: After 3 hours ride from Arequipa, the Jeep arrives at approximately 5,000 m. First camp either here or after 2 more hours of hiking towards 5,350 m. From there next morning in 4 to 5 hours to the summit, in 3 hours descent to the Jeep. Note: when camping near the Jeep, ascent takes about 8 hours.
- Western Route past Quiscos: Within 3 days to the summit and back. Exciting route but demanding excellent guide, as often no trail is available. Very impressive view of the almost vertical Southern Face of the Nevado Nocarane (5,780 m).
- Southern Route or Cabrerías: Done in 3 days, with excellent guide only. Most technical of all routes, usually without trail. Excellent view of Arequipa and the Misti volcano.
